Get dancing at a fund-raising ceilidh in aid of the 51st Whitstable May Day Jack-in-the-Green procession!
Whether you're a complete beginner or super experienced, this fun social dance night will be led by expert dance callers Kerry Fletcher and James Gaunt, who will get you up and dancing to great live music from the fabulous Climax Ceilidh Band. If you've never been to a ceilidh (or barn dance) before, give it a go and you'll be hooked! The live caller walks you through the dance and tells you what to do – so no skill needed, and no partner required, though feel free to bring one.
And as it's Hallowe'en weekend, why not wear your spookiest outfit? There'll be a prize for the scariest dancer!
The annual Jack-in-the-Green procession, a revival of an old May custom, celebrates its 51st consecutive year in 2026. Colourful characters including morris dancers and musicians lead Jack in all his greenery through the town to the castle, with a herd of hooden horses and other beasts guiding the way. This ceilidh is to raise funds to allow us to continue to put on this joyful event! We are a team of volunteers so your support is greatly appreciated.
