in 1981, The Roxy took a chance on a little-known comedian named Paul Reubens and his eccentric character, Pee Wee Herman. His show had moved from the Groundlings to the Roxy Theatre – the famed music venue on Sun Set Strip - because it was gaining a huge cult following and needed a bigger theatre. Between the months of May & July, The Pee Wee Herman Show would run 3 nights in a row at a time. The HBO cable network taped one of these shows and aired it as a special that year. This nightclub performance was for an adult audience than the later children's TV series. This is a celebration of the life and work of the great Paul Reubens.
