Join Greater Manchester rs21 for a talk with Andreas Malm and Wim Carton to discuss their latest book.
The Long Heat: Climate Politics When It’s Too Late tackles the idea that climate catastrophe can be averted through technological rather than political change. As the planet crosses the 1.5°C warming threshold - and likely races past 2°C - do such solutions as carbon removal or blocking sunlight offer some hope where efforts at political initiative have failed?
Malm, known for Fossil Capital and How to Blow Up a Pipeline, teams up with Carton to cut through false solutions, calling out fossil fuel profits, political cowardice, and the lack of urgency that got us here, while laying out the stakes for the climate struggle in the years ahead. In the end, no technology can absolve us of responsibility for our planet and each other.
