Join us for an intimate evening of readings and conversation to raise funds for Gaza and community projects in London!
Amidst these darkening days, we are holding each other close and celebrating what it means to be with community.
In this warm and open gathering at The People's Letters, we are inviting you to come and hear poems, essays, and words that have moved us. Everyone is welcome to share something - it can be your own work or writing that has inspired you! Or just cosy up and listen and browse some books in between.
Most importantly, we will be raising funds for some very dear causes. 100% of your donations will go towards:
- Raed and his family in Gaza: Raed is an inspiring young man who, against all odds, has just graduated with a high school degree while surviving a genocide. His family has been displaced since their home in northeast Gaza was reduced to rubble. Their neighbourhood is still under Israeli occupation and they have nowhere to return to. They are facing another winter with nothing, and your support will help them with essential needs like food, medicine, and warm clothing, while reminding them that they are not alone. Raed hopes to contribute something to the evening too (internet permitting!).
- Cass House: A new initiative to craft a space for radical organising in Tottenham, a group of community organisers and creatives are raising funds to rent a new space that will serve as a co-working and organising hub for activities in the local community. A couple of members will be sharing their creative work.
- The People's Letters: Our host for the evening and all around good comrades, the bookshop has recently reopened as a workers co-op, with an impeccable selection of books and equally impeccable politics.
The evening will be a relaxed affair so feel free to come and go as you like. If you have any access needs, please do let us know.
Covid-19 safety: We are in peak cold season and unfortunately Covid is still around. Please stay home and rest if you're feeling ill.
Tickets: The tickets are suggested donations. As this is a fundraiser, we encourage you to give as much as you can! That said, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Can't make it but still want to support? You can donate directly to Raed's fundraiser here: https://chuffed.org/project/help-raed-in-gaza
Thank you and looking forward to seeing you soon!
