Recent winner of the Casio Sessions 2025, singer-songwriter Sofia Kirwan-Baez has been praised for “soothing the soul” by We Write About Music, and commended for her “ability to engage with her audience with vivacity” by Mark Aspen.
Born in France, Sofia began playing the piano at eight and was already performing her own songs as a teenager. Even before the release of her debut album, she was pursuing an international career across the UK and France. In 2021 she released her acoustic demo album Take One and a Half, which showcases her vocal/piano artistry through original compositions performed by voice and piano alone.
Her performances evoke the atmosphere of a velvet-draped jazz club at midnight whilst blending touches of Sara Bareilles, Coldplay, Carole King and Ella Fitzgerald. Combining her songwriting projects with a blossoming operatic career, theatricality and engaging with her audience play a great role in any of her live shows.
Her jazz-pop-fusion work includes residencies at Sandy’s Piano Bar (Oxford), the Marriott Hotel (Cardiff), and the Four Seasons (Florence). She now performs regularly at The Dorchester, The Savoy, and Fortnum & Mason in London.
Her forthcoming single, Perfect Imperfections, will be released on streaming platforms and vinyl in 2026.
