Discover the alchemy of sand casting with Smith & Sun. Shape your design, press it into delft clay, and pour in molten silver to bring your vision to life. This ancient process captures bold, organic textures unique to each mould, creating a tactile, one-of-a-kind talisman.
Sand casting is one of the oldest methods of working with metals to create household objects, coins, talismans, jewellery and more industrial objects. The delft clay embraces even the smallest details, resulting in bold, raw textures that can’t be exactly replicated by any other technique. I have always been deeply inspired by the Navajo, who have a tradition of tufa casting and sandstone casting to create their distinctive silver jewellery.
Designed as an intimate workshop for two, this experience offers space to create side-by-side - perfect for partners, friends, or collaborators who want to share a moment of making, ritual, and craftsmanship together.
Participants will leave with a completely unique piece, hand-forged by them in sterling silver.
Please wear full covered shoes and non-flammable clothing (!).
Free tea & coffee will be provided.
