Silky Floor Social is a community art & dance social event, aimed at anyone who loves to dance on the floor. The event is a floorwork jam, where attendees have access to the event space for socialising, creating, practicing, collaborating, taking photos/videos and taking part in arts activities. The event aims to bring local humans together with a shared interest, with the event facilitating the socialising, creative practice, movement and performance in a private space, at what ever level of physical and social capacity attendees choose to.
SFS was created by a queer dancer, pole dancer, teacher and performer - Jane Silk. Although aimed predominantly towards the pole community, any kind of style/expression - e.g. self-taught, spicy, pole, contemporary, jazz, commercial, hip-hop, cabaret, burlesque, drag…any combination of dance style lover - are welcome here. Generally, any human who likes to move around the floor with their body to express themselves. Safeguarding is an integral part of being in a community. Period.
About this event and why it's important…a few words from Provocafit Owner & Director, Shona / MayPole:
"Provocafit is ready for its new home - And we’re asking our community to help make it happen!
For the past four years, Provocafit has grown from a small starter studio into a thriving, queer-led movement space in Loughborough. What began as a place to try pole has become a creative home where people reconnect with their bodies, build confidence and find community.
Now, we’re standing at an important crossroads. With the right support, this next chapter could be something really special!
What’s happening right now:
Our building is up for sale, and our current lease ends in 2026. This all coincides with Provocafit outgrowing its first space - it’s time for us to move to a new home!
At the same time, a rare opportunity has appeared.
We’ve found a potential new space that is genuinely affordable, suitable for a pole and dance studio, and aligned with our long-term vision! It’s the first option that feels like a true step forward rather than a compromise, and the landlord is looking for someone ready to move in early 2026.
If we want to secure this truly perfect space, we need to act now!
Why this space really matters
Provocafit has outgrown its original studio; not just in numbers, but in what our community needs.
A bit about the new space:
- It’s still in Loughborough - a literal stone’s throw away from our current place!
- It's massive - about 4x the size of our current space!
- More (taller!) poles, improving freedom of movement and reducing waitlists
- A larger, safer studio floor, so dancers aren’t working on top of each other
- Space for aerial points, so we can add hoops, silks, chains and more in the future!
- Beautiful communal reception areas - No more waiting outside (and it has photo ops!)
- Part of a historic building - with plenty of original features & details highlighted.
- Huge windows and natural light, making the studio feel open and energising.
- A private, off-road car park, improving access and making your arrival/leaving safer
- Improved security, so everyone feels safe arriving, during classes, and when leaving
- Better layout and accessibility, including wheelchair accessible entrances
- We'll be able to offer more low-cost classes and scholarships, so we can provide classes to more people in our community who experience financial barriers.
Provocafit deserves a home that matches the beauty, size, and depth of its community - this is it!
The financial reality
Moving a studio isn’t just about rent; it’s about timing, cashflow, and making sure a new space is safe and usable from day one.
Shona will be personally funding the legal costs involved in securing the new lease, including solicitor fees and a three-month rental deposit, totalling approximately £5,000.
What we need to raise together is funding for the remaining upfront costs required to make the move possible and keep the studio stable during the transition:
- Fitting out the new space (flooring, electrics, lighting, heating): £5,000–£6,000
- Equipment (new poles, mirrors, and professional installation): £3,000–£4,000
- Decorating and finishing touches: £500–£1,000
- Remaining rent on our current studio (unless an early exit can be negotiated): approx £3,900
These are realistic estimates based on known costs and commitments. They reflect the genuine overlap involved in moving premises, and they are the costs that need to be covered before we can confidently commit to the new space.
Any surplus raised will go towards finishing the studio to a high standard and replacing/increasing some of our older existing equipment such as mats, storage, other studio goodies!
How we’re raising the funds (beyond this Crowdfunder)
This move isn’t being placed on donors’ shoulders alone. Alongside this Crowdfunder, we’re running large-scale fundraising events, extra workshops and pop-ups, raffles, and community-led initiatives. Every penny of business profit is being redirected toward moving costs, and Shona won’t be taking additional income from the extra labour involved.
This is a collective effort, and every contribution plays a part!
Provocafit is becoming a CIC
Provocafit has applied to become a Community Interest Company (CIC). This means all funds are legally protected, cannot be used for personal gain, and must be reinvested for community benefit.
For supporters, this offers clear reassurance: every donated pound strengthens the Provocafit community.
Why Provocafit matters
Provocafit has never been just poles and mirrors. People arrive nervous or self-critical and leave more confident, more grounded, and more at home in themselves. Over time, we’ve seen that confidence ripple outward into healthier relationships, creative risks, new careers and braver lives over and over again.
Provocafit is not the studio - it’s the people within it. And we deserve somewhere stable that we can settle into and continue to grow.
Thank You!
Whether you’re able to donate, share the campaign, or show up in other ways, your support truly matters. With the right momentum, this next chapter won’t just keep Provocafit going, it will allow it to flourish.
I’m so excited about this opportunity and what it could mean for us all - let’s do it!
