Come to celebrate the opening of the LGBTQ+ History Month art exhibition, Under Our Skin.
6-8pm Thursday, 5th February 2026
Under Our Skin is group show taking place in the Tate Library in Brixton during LGBTQ+ History Month. It's curated by the openly queer artist, Xavier White (b. 1993) and features artists with a connection to the borough of Lambeth, and beyond.
Under Our Skin examines what lies beneath the surfaces we’ve learned to present - the lessons we absorbed, the masks we wore, and the truths we eventually let out. Through diverse queer perspectives, this group exhibition explores how identity is taught, tested, and ultimately embodied. From classrooms to coming out to coming undone, from bullying to belonging, these works expose the ways people and places have got under our skin. They reveal the marks that made us: the words that bruised, the lessons that liberated, the scars left by survival.
During the launch we will have a panel on the importance of queer art.
The gallery space for this LGBTQ+ History Month art exhibition has been kindly donated by Brixton (Tate) Library. There will be beer, however, if you’d like to drink something else to celebrate, please may we encourage you to BYOB.
Location:
Brixton (Tate) Library, Brixton Oval, London SW2 1JQ
