Welcome to Simmer - Norwich’s hot new QTPOC social!
Brought to you by Trish Fried Rice, Sam Rooke and Zana Baklava in collaboration with Queerfest!
Join us for our launch event at First Draft Bar and expect art, henna, badge-making, good music and a chance to make some new friends. Tickets are free and this is a drop-in event so you can come and go as you please, but please ensure you have a ticket and check in at the door to ensure to safety of our attendees.

- Badge-Making
- Drop in slots throughout the event: 2-3pm and 5-6pm
- You will be able to design a badge using the drawing materials and template provided. One of the event organisers will then be able to help you make the design into your own pin badge using the badge making machine provided!
- Henna table
- Drop in slots throughout the event: 3-4pm and 6-7pm
- You can either do your own henna or do each other's, it's up to you! One of the event organisers can help you too.
- Henna cones and templates will be provided. We are using organic henna made by a small business in the UK. Ingredients: Organic Rajasthani (Sojat) henna powder, eucalyptus oil, sugar, water. If you have skin sensitivities please take part with the knowledge we cannot be held liable in the unlikely event of any adverse reactions.
- Community Poem with Thea Chitseko
- Drop in as you please throughout the whole event, no specific time slots.
- We'll be creating a mood board over the course of the social, capturing our hopes, intentions and the necessity for this space. Respond to prompts or bring along a some pre-prepared pictures or words and at the end of the social our resident poet will be transforming all the vibes you bring into a poem which will, hopefully, capture the moment!
SAFE SPACE POLICY
- Simmer is a QTPOC run collective which welcomes all people of colour that also identify as queer and/or trans or who are questioning their gender identity/sexuality. If you do not fall within the QTPOC umbrella, then our events are not for you. You can support us by spreading the word instead.
- Racism, transphobia, ableism, classism, queerphobia, fatphobia, misogyny and all other forms of bigotry will not be tolerated at our events. Please speak to Trish, Sam or Zana or the First Draft staff if you are made to feel uncomfortable at any point during our event, and we will be happy to assist you.
ACCESSIBILITY AND ACCESS INFO:
- The venue has step-free access via a ramp and an accessible toilet. The venue is on one floor. Different parts of the venue have lights that can be adjusted separately for people with sensory issues. There are no flashing lights.
