🎭 Are you the drama? Is the whole world a stage to you? Do you know the “Cerulean” monologue by heart? Then our brand new Queer Drama Club is for you!
Across February and April, we'll be running 8 workshops using a whole load of theatre techniques— like improvisation, movement, and voice work—to foster creativity and artistic expression in a safe and inclusive space for queer migrants and queer folks of colour. We'll be led by Diego Agurto Beroiza, PhD researcher and Applied Theatre practitioner, and over the 8 sessions we'll get to grips with scene work, dialogue, blocking, and dramaturgy in a relaxed and accessible environment where participants can explore identity, build confidence, and develop performance skills collectively.
We'll be releasing tickets for the April workshops in mid-March, but you can sign up for all the February workshops now! You can sign up to as many as you'd like, but please don't hog the space if you can't make it!
Upcoming Workshops:
📅 February 5th: Telenovela Fever - Immerse yourself in the world of melodrama where every tear and every slap turn exaggeration into a way of life. Inspired by telenovelas, we’ll parody their overflowing plots to explore camp as a queer aesthetic strategy.
📅 February 12th: Mean Queens - Using real fragments from Mean Girls as stimulus, we’ll dissect and exaggerate the absurdity of teenage hierarchies. Expect cafeteria politics, burn books, and a queer twist on Regina George’s empire.
📅 February 19th: Pop Idols Unplugged - Behind every synchronised dance move lies a capitalist fantasy. We’ll parody pop stardom by creating fake bands too fabulous to fail, questioning gender performance and fame.
📅 February 26th: 10 Things I Hate About Normativity - Take hetero love tropes and flip them like a badly placed wig. We’ll rewrite rom-com scenes to expose the ridiculousness of compulsory heterosexuality and make space for queer desire.
📅 April 9th: Bodies In Revolt - Words are overrated. We’ll explore storytelling through bodies, sweat, and awkward intimacy, turning movement into a political and sensual act.
📅 April 16th: Reality Show Realness - Drag the concept of “realness” through the mud of camp excess. We’ll parody reality shows to reveal how authenticity is staged and commodified.
📅 April 23rd: Queering The Classics - Shakespeare, Chekhov and the gang are about to get a queer makeover. We’ll rethink theatre history by rewriting fragments with camp aesthetics and radical queer politics.
📅 April 30th: Talent Show Of Absurdity - Everyone’s a star, but what happens when your talent is completely useless? We’ll create absurd personas and stage a campy talent show that celebrates failure as fabulous.
Come as you are and join us for some dynamic theatre workshops filled with warmth, inclusivity, and celebration of queer narratives. Reserve your free ticket now! 🌈🎭

About our FREE events
💜 Our events are free to ensure they remain accessible to our communities. However, organizing them comes with costs. If you'd like to support our work, please consider donating via this link.
💜 To make sure as many people as possible can attend, we ask that you cancel your ticket if you can no longer make it. Failing to show up without prior cancellation takes a spot from someone else and wastes resources, including food and venue costs. We track attendance, and individuals who miss three events without cancelling will be unable to register for our future events. Please be considerate and let us know if you can’t attend.
💜 To ensure a smooth and respectful experience for everyone, please arrive on time. Our events are not drop-in sessions, meaning attendees must arrive at the start time and stay for the duration. We allow a 10-minute grace period for late arrivals - after that, entry will not be permitted as it can be disruptive to the group. Additionally, the entrance is not monitored after the grace period, so there will be no one available to let latecomers in. The event hours are clearly stated in the description, so please plan accordingly. Thank you for understanding and helping us create a welcoming space for all!
💜 Alongside this, we appreciate it if you could respond to any communication by the given response deadline so we can make the necessary arrangements for the event.
💜 By signing up to this event, you accept being added to MAUREEN's newsletter. You can opt out at any time.
