Join us for the next Woodland Queers session for nourish, a session led by Decolonising the Outdoors. Through a gentle walk, creative exercises and discussions, we will explore what nourish means to us. This will be a relaxed space for us to come together and connect, to share our knowledge and joy.
Decolonising The Outdoors is a creative and community project which aims to dismantle narratives of dominating land and extracting nature, to rebuild relationships with the more-than-human world, and to empower communities by imagining anti-imperial anti-capitalist futures. Decolonising The Outdoors is run by Aileen Angsutorn Lees, a queer Thai-British artist based in Perthshire.
What to expect
We have hired a bus to take us there so pick up will be from Bristo Square, Edinburgh (exact location will be sent out ahead of the event). Please get to Bristo Square by 10:50am so there is time to sign in, we will leave at 11am sharp, drop off will be at the same place at 3:30pm. Space is limited so registration is required!
The steps onto the bus are low and if you are a wheelchair user please contact us directly because the bus company requires that we let them know in advance.
You can also register to meet us there and we will directly contact these folks with the relevant meeting location and time.
If you have specific accessibility needs, please get in touch. Portmoak Moss has gravel paths and step free routes are available. More information about Portmoak Moss can be found at https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/visiting-woods/woods/portmoak-moss/.
This session will look at the ways in which our bodies feel nourished and the roles that creativity, community and the outdoors play in collective healing. We will use all our senses where we can. Learning from each other, we will also consider how we can practice interconnectedness in a colonial environment.
Please bring a pen/pencil and paper for writing and/or drawing (and something to lean on), as well as a camera phone.
Please also bring a drink and lunch and wear weather appropriate clothing and footwear, although we will mainly be sticking to the wooded areas, it is a bog so the paths can be wet and muddy. There are no on-site facilities but we can stop at RSPB Loch Leven on our way back.
We strive to create an inclusive and supportive space, this is why we follow the safer space commitments which applies to all Queer by Nature events. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with these guidelines so you know what to expect.
We hope to see you there!
