Flipping the Script is a panel for women, non-binary people and trans men of colour on making scripted projects for Radio, TV, Film and online.
We will explore what makes an idea worth developing, what makes a script worth commissioning, and discuss the current TV, Film and Radio landscapes before opening the floor up to your questions.
This panel will be hosted by Kemah Bob and feature Nana Hughes, Julia McKenzie and Janet Awe.
Nana Hughes
Nana is a BAFTA, RTS, and Broadcast award-winning television executive with a distinguished career in scripted comedy. As the current Head of Scripted Comedy at ITV, she oversees the development and commissioning of scripted comedy content across ITV1, ITV2, and ITVX. Nana is renowned for championing diverse voices and creating content that resonates with contemporary British audiences. She was the Executive Producer on the award winning Chewing Gum.
Julia McKenzie
Julia McKenzie is the Commissioning Editor for Comedy and Entertainment at Radio 4, and prior to that was Creative Director of BBC Studios Audio for 7 years, specialising in comedy and entertainment production. She oversees a team of producers who work with a range of talent on shows that include stand up, sketch, satire and panel as well as sitcoms and comedy drama for Radio 4.
Janet Awe
Janet has worked in production companies as well as at a broadcaster, she has first hand experience of developing, producing and commissioning television, from both sides of the fence, as well as producing award-winning web series and shorts. Janet is also a well-established story producer and script editor, employed by broadcasters, production companies and directly by writers for their features, shorts and TV projects.
Kemah Bob
Kemah Bob (she/they) is a comedian from Houston, Texas now based in London who values comedy as a powerful tool for self expression. She founded The Femmes of Colo(u)r Comedy Club with one intention: to create a joyful and empowering experience. She has supported Hannah Gadsby, Nish Kumar, Desiree Burch, Jess Fostekew and The Guilty Feminist on tour. Her TV work includes QI, It’s A Sin: After Hours, Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club (ITV), 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (C4), Richard Osman’s House of Games and more.

This panel is a part of the first ever FOC Fest at Soho Theatre. The one day event will feature star-studded industry panels, workshops and culminate in an iconic comedy showcase.

- Power to the People - A workshop on utilizing humor for self expression, building confidence and improving mental health through comedy.
- Live and Direct - a panel on gigging, solo shows, producing comedy shows, navigating the Edinburgh fringe and touring.
