In March at Transmissions we're delving into what masculinity means to those who come by it hard, through blood, sweat and tears, and what it looks like when people transgress against it.
Transf@gs, meatheads, studs, snakes, angels, lovers, and those who use violence as language and currency will walk the halls of our screen in search of a masculinity they can claim, can play at or just leave discarded.
We begin our March season, MASC ONLY, with a searing Belgian drama from Michaël R. Roskam (The Drop, Far From The Madding Crowd) starring Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust & Bone, A Bigger Splash) in his career-making performance as a cattle farmer intimately involved in the trade of illegal growth hormones whose dealings with the “hormone mafia” will force him to reckon with an all-consuming secret from his past.
Rundskop (2011), or 'Bullhead' in English, is a mesmerising piece of storytelling wherein we observe a man existing constantly on a knife's edge in a world where manhood is a thing to prove, physical strength is armour, and intimidation a way of life even as cracks - and an aching need for intimacy - begin to show.
Find us downstairs at Dalston Superstore for a truly unforgettable, and rarely-screened film.
Sometimes in a man's life stuff happens that makes everyone go quiet. So quiet that no one even dares talk about it. Not to anyone, not even to themselves.

This film will be shown in Dutch with English subtitles.
Seating is a mixture of benches, backed chairs, bar stools, and floor space, and is first come, first served.
