ParliOut and Older Queer Voice invite to you to a Roundtable - Hybrid session
Nicola & Raga, Curators, Older Queer Voices invite you to a roundtable in the Jubilee Room, The House of Commons exploring what older LGBTQ+ people need from the next decade and why visibility and representation in later life is no longer optional but essential.
This session will bring together members of ParliOut, intergenerational LGBTQ+ community members, advocates and leaders who are living the realities of ageing today, creating space for honest, lived-experience-led discussion.
Raga D'silva will open the discussion, and the event will be Chaired by Joseph Galliano-Doig MBE, co-founder of Queer Britain and former editor of Gay Times.
As the first generation to have lived through criminalisation, Section 28 and the AIDS crisis enters later life, many are now face growing isolation, discrimination across healthcare and social care settings, housing insecurity, and in some cases, a quiet but devastating return to the closet.
In a society where ageing already renders people invisible, older LGBTQ+ people risk disappearing altogether unless visibility is actively protected and representation meaningfully embedded into policy and practice.
We will explore what it takes for our communities to remain seen, safe and supported as we navigate later life, and how the decisions being made today will shape the dignity, inclusion and belonging of those who fought for the rights many now enjoy.
Following the roundtable, we aim to produce a one-page summary to share with policy makers, as the start of ongoing conversations to ensure older LGBTQ+ people are visible, supported, and included in decisions affecting their health, housing, care, and community life.
We would be honoured to have you join us and to hear your suggestions for others, who could add value to this important conversation.
