Scottish Trans Equality Conference 2019
Come and join us at the Scottish Youth Theatre, Glasgow from 1030 - 1630
A community event for all trans people (including non-binary people, trans women and trans men) and their allies
Scottish Trans Alliance invites you to a day of community networking and discussion to identify priorities and strategies for progressing trans equality across healthcare, education, employment and wider society. There will also be skills development workshops to help empower trans people to confidently carry out equality work.
The day will include workshops and speakers on a wide range of topics, including:
- Re-envisioning Trans Healthcare: We know the current NHS Gender Identity Clinics are not adequate but what changes are needed to create trans healthcare that truly meets the needs of all trans people? What strategies could we use to achieve better trans healthcare?
- Non-Binary Recognition – Where do we go from here?: What are the best strategies to keep up pressure on the Scottish Government to recognise non-binary people, and how can we work for a broader society that is more non-binary inclusive?
- Social Media Skills Training: Find out how to have a positive social media impact and get your equality messages heard more effectively. Also, what can we say to government ministers and civil servants to help them better understand our needs and to get them to prioritise trans equality.
- Trans Inclusive Education: How can trans kids and kids with trans parents be better supported in school?
- "Our Lives Are Real" Filmmaking: What do you wish the general public better understood about trans people's lives? This interactive workshop will enable you to create short trans equality films for sharing online.
- Gender-Neutral and Single-Sex Services: How do your experiences of using toilets, changing rooms, hospital wards and other services vary depending on whether they are gender-neutral or single-sex? How could safety, privacy and dignity be improved?
- Building Resilience and Self-Esteem: How can we improve community support and what do we need general counselling services to know and do in order to best assist trans clients?
- Understanding Our Legal Rights: Learn about how equality and human rights law covers trans people and what you can do if you experience discrimination. How can workplaces become more trans-friendly and what can you do if you experience prejudice at work? What could be done to better support people who have experienced a transphobic hate crime?
