During February 2026, the US was engaged in a major, visible naval buildup near Iran that was characterised by Trump as a ‘massive armada.’ The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group moved into the Persian Gulf with up to 90 fighter jets and accompanied by 5 cruiser and destroyer ships along with a military submarine. On the 28th February, there was a joint US-Zionist attack on Iran with airstrikes on Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Lorestan, Karaj, Tabriz, Kermanshah. Strikes from the US-Zionist attack martyred IRGC personnel and civilians. This includes strikes that resulted in the deaths of more than 200 people, including many schoolchildren, after missiles struck Shajareh Tayyebeh girls' school in Minab.
US war against Iran is aimed at overthrowing the Iranian government and either replacing it with a regime that would bend to the dictates of US imperialism - as it did in the CIA-Mossad-MI6 coup d'etat in 1953 - or shattering the state entirely, to consume the country in a power vacuum. While being plotted for decades, the assault on Iran stands at the conjuncture of the fundamental processes of US imperialism today: eliminating the possibility of resistance against Israel in the region, reassert colonial-era dominance over the Global South and to build towards a confrontation China.
The forum aims to expose imperialist interests in waging war on Iran, and to counter the imperialist narratives that continue to justify the supposed ‘necessity’ of this war. It also seeks to highlight British complicity in the imperialist agression on Iran.
