Sex Worker History: 1800s
Learn about sex worker history in Europe in the 1800s. Hear what the lives of sex workers were like at the time, what the laws were, read real letters written by sex workers from the early 1800s, and gain the context needed to understand the sex worker rights movement in the modern day.
We'll also go over the common slang terms used by 19th century sex workers!
Attendees will get a digital copy of the book Contemporary Prostitution: Study of a Social Question, a list of old sex worker slang words and a PDF of letters from sex workers in their original French.
Hosted by Jack Parker, translator of La Prostitution Contemporaine (Contemporary Prostitution), a book originally published in 1884 about sex work and public opinion.
