Dance Improvisation
Dancing as a creative, healing and human experience. This dance class is not about learning steps or moving in a certain way. Rather, it is about connecting with our bodies and exploring what movements arise within them, treating ourselves with compassion and curiosity.Classes will usually start with a guided meditation, from which we will explore movements emerging in our bodies. You may end up moving and dancing around lots, or being relatively still - there is no right and wrong. I will usually bring us back to a closing guided meditation at the end.
You do not need to have previous dance experience. Everyone is welcome. Please wear anything you can move safely and comfortably in. Socks or bare feet are both fine.
I am informed by previous experiences in dance often asking me to disregard what my body feels, wants or needs, as well as a world which often requires us to disconnect from our bodies. The aim of these classes is to give some time for us to be embodied and explore and enjoy movement - whatever that looks like for you.
About your teacher:
Before becoming an art psychotherapist, Kip trained professionally in ballet and contemporary dance at Rambert School and Trinity Laban Conservatoire. He is passionate about creative self-expression, embodying queer curiosity, and helping others connect compassionately to their bodies and emotions.
