Join our brilliant exhibiting artist Xinyu Li for a creative workshop exploring ageing spaces and collective memory.
Grounded in an academically informed lens, the workshop examines the psychological displacement triggered by decay and rethinks how ruins mediate relationships between the city, memory, and heritage-making — without romanticising them or turning them into objects of sensational looking. Participants are invited to share personal encounters with demolition, former homes, diaspora, and urban exploration, then translate these experiences into paper-based outputs — writing, drawing, and collage. All contributions will be gathered into a small collective archive, displayed as a pop-up exhibition and/or developed into a themed zine publication.
👤 Xinyu Li (@naonaonaoqii) is a Chinese art researcher based in London and a PhD candidate at the University of the Arts London. She holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her practice-led research investigates the spatial and psychological conditions generated by ruination, with particular attention to how abandoned architectures mediate memory, diaspora, and disrupted urban futures. Combining autoethnography, site-walking, and visual methods, Xinyu examines ruins as speculative infrastructures where stalled planning, personal aspiration, and cultural memory collide. Her independent publishing grows out of her urban explorations and research. It documents, in stages, the psychological displacement triggered by decay.
