Resistance Saturday School: Philippine Society and Revolution 101
Get in touch with your Filipino roots and learn about Philippine liberation and resistance! Join this Saturday School as we study the centuries long resistance of the strong Filipino people. We'll cover historical and contemporary movements of resistance and liberation, how it ties into the global anti-imperialist movement, and why Filipinos have a matured migration culture.
This will be a space to collectively learn and discuss the issues in the Philippines, and to help us gain an understanding of it - but most importantly, what actions we can take to change it! There are zero pre-requisites of learning Philippine Colonial history and modern day struggles beforehand in order to join. If you’ve been looking for a Filipino community here or a space to ask questions and talk about these topics, come and join us!
Agenda
Throughout the first half of our educational discussion we will be covering “The disjunct between PH’s rich resources & the people’s welfare”, an exploratory exchange on the socio-economic conditions and struggles of the Filipino masses, and “Philippine history and class conflicts”, or the emergence of social classes and conflicts of Filipinos before, during, and after Spanish colonial rule.
After a short break, we will continue to our second half of our discussion on the topics of the "Root causes of societal struggles" and the "Democratic people’s revolution". This will cover the three basic problems (U.S. imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism) actively working hand-in-hand together to currently impact a dignified life of a Filipino in the homeland, and the solution to liberating Filipinos from these struggles.
This event is open to anyone and will be an in-person event, and no pre-requisites to join this event. Feel free to bring your own lunch and refreshments if you prefer. Snacks for sharing is welcome, please label food with any allergens.
Donations of £1 encouraged! This goes towards booking venues and running our activist studies and educational discussions sustainably and openly accessible to everyone!
