A new 4 week porn literacy group to give space for young people to discuss their relationship to porn on their terms.
Porn is a major part of many people’s sexual and digital lives, but it’s rarely talked about in ways that feel honest, nuanced, or non-judgemental. This four-part porn literacy workshop series offers a supportive, inclusive space to explore pornography through discussion, reflection, and interactive activities. Rather than treating young people as passive victims or assuming porn is either wholly harmful or empowering, the sessions approach participants as active media consumers with diverse experiences and needs. Together we’ll unpack what porn is, how regulation impacts access and privacy, how it shapes ideas about sex and relationships, and how to engage with porn more intentionally. The series centres critical thinking and openness , making space for complexity without shame.
Session 1: Why porn?
The first session introduces how we will explore pornography together in a shame-free, inclusive, and open-minded environment. It aims to normalise conversations about porn, challenge stigma, and develop a nuanced understanding of what pornography is and the many forms it can take. Through reflective discussion, a short questionnaire, and activities participants will explore why people engage with porn, what they seek from it, and how it can shape everyday experiences. The session encourages critical thinking while creating a safe space for open, respectful dialogue.
Session 2: Protect you from Porn?
The second session explores the UK Online Safety Act, focusing on how regulation, age verification, and “protection” narratives shape access to pornography. In a supportive, discussion-based environment, participants will reflect on how the ban has influenced their own consumption, consider its effectiveness, and examine concerns around privacy and data. Through guided conversation, a group-based hypothetical scenario, and a short quiz, the session builds critical thinking about whether current restrictions genuinely improve safety or instead create a false sense of security while leaving deeper issues unaddressed.
Session 3: Let’s play! Porn literacy games
Porn is media. Which means it can be analysed, questioned, and understood like any other cultural product. This interactive session uses games and playful activities to build porn literacy skills in a practical way. Together we’ll explore how porn communicates ideas about bodies, gender, sex, consent, pleasure, power, and relationships, sometimes in ways that are helpful, and sometimes in ways that are harmful or misleading.
Session 4: Porn guide zine making
In the final session, participants will synthesize what they’ve explored across the series by creating a porn literacy zine, individually or in small groups. The zine will reflect what they wish they’d known earlier and offer a grounded, values-based guide for navigating porn with greater intention and self-awareness. The focus is on empowerment, reflection, and care.
