Gay School does Resistance Training
When we started Gay School, the aim was clear: use theory as a blueprint for action. Not as abstraction but a tool that cuts. This session, we’ll look directly at the legal frameworks that define what counts as violence, and that constrain our communities from taking action. We’ll ask what it means to mobilise theory when the ground keeps shifting.
How do we organise together in the face of powerlessness and apathy? How are activist movements built, not just from rage, but from rigorous thinking? If you’ve ever felt stuck between knowing something is wrong and not knowing what to do, this one is for you.
For most of our history, being gay was a crime. Today, the state offers 'rights' to some queer people, whilst criminalising those who stand against genocide or borders.
“We must refuse the state’s invitation to be "good citizens" when that citizenship is built on the exclusion of others.” - Conrad, Queering Anarchism
