Millennium Performing Arts is proud to present ToTheCore: Ignite26.
A thrilling showcase of musical theatre, hip-hop, contemporary and jazz. Choreographed & arranged by leading industry creatives, brought together with Artistic Direction from Zak Nemorin.
This year ToTheCore is split into four sections: “The Golden Age Collection”, “Urinetown”, “Hope” & “A to B and Back Again”. These are linked with standalone dances, songs and acting vignettes. From sleek jazz dance to soul-filled ballads, Ignite26 is filled with breathtaking performances from the next generation of musical theatre performers.
Section 1: The Golden Age Collection
Find yourself whisked off to the 1930s and ‘40s, vibrant and rhythmically infectious. Inspired by The Golden Era of Jazz and Musical Theatre.
Section 2: Urinetown the Musical
A small selection of musical numbers from Urinetown the Musical:
In the not-so-distant future, a terrible water shortage and 20-year drought has led to a government ban on private toilets. If the poor don’t obey the strict laws prohibiting free urination, they’ll be sent to the dreaded and mysterious “Urinetown.” The poor stage a revolt, fighting tooth and nail for the freedom to pee “wherever you like, whenever you like, for as long as you like, and with whomever you like.”
Section 3: Hope
Inspired by a true story, Hope is a classical reimagining of the life of a WW1 soldier of Irish descent, who loved to play the violin. The soldier took his instrument when deployed to the trenches, where his music became a source of strength and comfort to his fellow soldiers. The violin itself became a war diary with his battle history, locations and dates scratched on the back.
Incredibly both he and the violin survived the war. The violin was eventually passed on to his Granddaughter who played it in his memory.
Section 4: A to B and Back Again
A celebration of Benny & Bjorn, featuring music from their acclaimed musical theatre shows: Chess & Mamma Mia. A nostalgia-swirled explosion of colour and disco, building up to a vibrant finale.
