Join Muslim Social Justice Initiative (MSJI) for an evening of conversation, reflection, and community around humanitarianism and the politics of doing good under empire.
Imagining a World Beyond Charity brings together Rhea Rahman and Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan in discussion around Rahman’s new book Racializing the Ummah: Muslim Humanitarians Beyond Black, White and Brown, a powerful exploration of how Muslim humanitarian organisations operate within systems shaped by racial capitalism, surveillance, and white supremacy.
Together, we'll explore the limits of charity under empire, and what it could mean to build forms of care and solidarity rooted instead in anti-colonial struggle, collective responsibility, and revolutionary political traditions.
Alongside the discussion, we will share a communal meal and create space for reflection and political education.
