Cable Street and the Bryant and May Matchwomen with Louise Raw
Author and anti-racist activist Louise Raw will talk about the women who shaped the early labour movement and went on to play a role in fighting the far-right.
In her groundbreaking 2011 book, “Strike a Light”, Louise uncovered the stories behind the historic 1888 strike at the Bryant and May match factory in Bow. Like The Battle of Cable Street, this was a pivotal episode in labour history, centred on the East End. Louise will talk about her book and the women who also went on to play a role in fighting the far-right.
