GRIT // 02 Multi Story, Peckham Levels — 11 June
GRIT is a workshop / event for FLINTA people making or curious about experimental, noise, heavy electronics, and industrial music. We exist to build a community that's beginner-friendly, non-hierarchical, and welcoming — for people who love difficult sound.
7–8pm — Mixer - Come early, meet people, have a cuppa. Bring gear if you want to talk it through with others, or just come for a chat. Sign up for the showcase now or later if you feel comfortable.
8–8.45pm — Workshop — Contact Mics with Lorena.
A contact mic is a tiny transducer that picks up vibration directly from surfaces — tape one to a table, a tin can, a piece of metal, a window, your own body. Run through a pedal or an effects chain and things get weird and cool.
They're cheap, portable, and one of the most direct ways into noise and experimental music.
This months artist Lorena, experienced in the land of sound experimentation, will go through how to use contact mics, show you different ways of using pedals, and what's possible when you start experimenting. Hands-on, practical, no experience needed.
We will be providing you with your very own contact mic. Bring a tin can, a gong, your double bass or idk, a frying pan (what ever might make a cool noise) and let's see what happens. Hehe.
9.00–10.30pm — Showcase (five slots available) - Wanna jam with some new pals? Bring a track, run part of a live set with sound and tech support on hand, or share whatever you're working on. Feedback available if you want it. Sign up during the mixer for a slot.
FLINTA ONLY. Fully accessible. Capped at 30 spaces — book your spot in advance.
