This session is being run by Crystal Palace Friends of Palestine's education team. The purpose of our events is to give attendees the opportunity to explore some of the issues arising from the ongoing occupation, apartheid and genocide in Palestine.
Our first education session centred on the history of Britain’s involvement in Palestine.
This session will be an opportunity to develop the practical skills useful in dealing with the kinds of talking points that often come up around Israel and Palestine. Including: how to deal with questions like ‘does Israel have a right to exist?’ , how to avoid being side-tracked by people acting in bad faith, and the different ways we can make the case for Palestine to different kinds of audience.
Different people we talk to have varying levels of knowledge, and different intentions – some are well-meaning but lack basic information, others are bad faith questioners who are trying to trip you up.
It's useful to be aware of the various techniques that are used, and possible ways these can be dealt with.
Sometimes it can be challenging just to think through how best to put the case for Palestine in the clearest and most persuasive way. Our session will aim to help you develop the tools for that.
As usual the format will encourage participants to bring their own ideas and experiences to the discussion: no one has a monopoly of wisdom and skill. We will bring ideas, techniques and activities, but we welcome contributions from participants.
