PLAY DATE is a collaborative live performance by Miranda Pissarides and Dirrty Harry. Working simultaneously, the artists enter a shared space of repetition, excess and transformation. Over the course of the performance, Harry manipulates and smears food across his body, pushing edible matter beyond its intended function and into something unstable, grotesque and strangely seductive. Responding in real time, Pissarides mirrors and translates these gestures through painting, allowing colour, texture and movement to migrate between body and image.
Like much of both artists practices, PLAY DATE occupies a territory between attraction and repulsion, humour and discomfort, pleasure and waste. Food becomes flesh. Consumption becomes performance. Materials accumulate, collapse and reform through a cycle of touch, distortion and excess.
Attendance is free. Donations are welcomed to support venue costs and the continued development of the artists practices.
