In Conversation with Hamish Steele and Shazleen Khan - Queer Comics
Come for an evening of wonderful conversation between Shazleen and Hamish, hosted by the incredible Kitty, on topics such as their queer YA comics, their journeys into publishing and how comics can be a space for queer young people to see themselves and their communities reflected on the page, followed by a Q&A and book signing.
About the Authors:
Shazleen Khan
Shazleen Khan (they/Them) is a queer bangladeshi muslim illustrator and author based in London. Their notable works include Ignatz award winning webcomic BUUZA!!, Eisner and Harvey nominated middle grade graphic novel Saving Sunshine (First Second, 2023) and "Sinister Sisters & Other stories" (Abrams 2025). Their other works include"What was built to be the ship of dreams? The Titanic" (PRH 2025) and upcoming "My First Monster" (LBYR).
Hamish Steele
Hamish Steele (he/they) is a London-based cartoonist, comic creator and animation writer/director. Soon after graduating from Kingston University he directed three animated shorts for Frederator Studios' Cartoon Hangover and Nickelodeon. Since then he has worked at Blink Industries developing various animated shows with the likes of the BBC and Disney. He has also created several graphic novels, beginning with the adult-comedy retelling of mythology Pantheon: The True Story of the Egyptian Gods which was published by Nobrow in 2017 and went on to earn him an Eisner for "Most Promising Newcomer". He then created the YA trilogy DeadEndia which was adapted in 2022 by Netflix into Dead End: Paranormal Park which won a GLAAD for its dedication to LGBTQIA+ representation and won "Children's Choice" at the British Animation Awards. Steele's current series, the middle-grade Go-Man, began in 2025 with the second volume coming in 2026, and follows the adventures of a superhero on the autism spectrum.
