Montez x FormaHQ Writing Workshop: Abstractions with Elida Silvey
Join Montez editor Elida Silvey on Tuesday 14th July from 11am-12.30pm for an artist-focused workshop on abstractions, utilising the inherent knowledge found in other artists' work as a point of departure from which to play with language and its capabilities. This workshop will take place in Peveril Gardens, as part of our jointly curated season of programming with Forma. Please note that there are stairs up to the garden.
In this workshop, Silvey proposes using the methodologies of photography as tools for storytelling. The aim is to retrain our keen sense of seeing in order to write stories/poems that abstract the reader’s expectation. If your sentence were a photograph, from what point would you enter? How can you change what you say when putting two images together? What would happen if you reversed their order? Would it tell a different story? In this workshop we will explore the possibilities available for storytelling in experimental and unconventional ways by using our eyes as our voices.
Tickets are free but booking is essential. Please also note that there are only twenty places available for this workshop, so if you are unable to attend please let us know so that we can allocate your place to someone on the waiting list.
