Summary
Wembley Park and West London Queer Project present a free, beginner-friendly touch rugby session in Union Park with West London Warriors, in the shadow of Wembley Stadium. Then a social third half at Feed the Yak!, first drink on Wembley Park. Everyone welcome.
About the event
Touch rugby, no tackling, no pressure, all welcome.
As part of Wembley Park Pride Week, West London Warriors are putting on a free session of touch rugby for the LGBTQ+ community, allies and anyone who fancies a game. It's one of the easiest ways to meet new people, get moving and feel part of things, whether you've played before or have never picked up a rugby ball.
We'll be playing in Union Park, right on the doorstep of Wembley Stadium, with the famous arch towering over the grass space. It's one of the most iconic backdrops in London to throw a ball around. Wembley Park is home to a brilliant, international community from all over the world, and this is a chance to come together, make friends and share a laugh in the open air.
West London Warriors are a mixed-gender, mixed-ability touch rugby club run by the West London Queer Project, open to everyone regardless of age, ability or experience. We'll be running the session, so you're in good hands from the first whistle.
Touch rugby is the non-contact version of the game. It's fast, friendly and easy to pick up, so you don't need any experience to join in. We'll run through the basics, then it's all about playing, laughing and getting to know each other.
What to expect:
- A warm welcome and a full beginner's intro
- Small, mixed-ability games
- A friendly, sociable atmosphere
- All abilities and identities welcome
What to bring:
- Trainers or trainers with moulded soles. No boots with metal studs, please
- Comfortable clothes you can move in
- A water bottle
- That's it. No kit or experience required.
The third half at Feed the Yak
In true rugby tradition, the game doesn't end at the final whistle. Afterwards we're heading to Feed the Yak! for a social third half, and Wembley Park are buying the first drink for every participant. It's the perfect chance to keep the conversation going and meet even more people.
Feed the Yak! is a craft beer sports bar right on the doorstep of Wembley Stadium's main entrance, home to North West London's largest selection of brewery beers with over 20 beer taps. There'll be live music throughout, and it's open to everyone, not just rugby players, so bring your friends and come for the atmosphere even if you sat the match out.
Spaces for the rugby are free but limited, so grab your spot.
