Density of the Pollen by Pik Kei Wong and Laura Osa
Explore Butoh-fu in this introductory workshop led by artist Pik Kei Wong, accompanied by musician Laura Osa. Drawing on Tatsumi Hijikata’s butoh practice, participants are invited to visualise the pattern of floral pollen through extensions and changes of their own bodies. Poetic prompts, somatic registers and sonic textures will facilitate the direction of movement and creation of shapes in collective space.
You will encounter shifting states of being, and with guidance, be supported to embody the states between pollen, air, migrational memory and flowery form, to discover renewed ways of sensing our inhabited bodies.
This is a participatory workshop that invites curiosity, attentive listening and gentle visualisations through movement. No previous experience with butoh or dance is required.
The workshop lasts approximately one hour and includes a warm-up and cool-down. Please bring water, a notebook and a towel, wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, and aim to arrive at least ten minutes before the session begins.
This open-level movement session is for Black and Brown women and gender-variant folk.
