A playful online gathering drawing from the power of sound.
On 8th August 2026, we celebrate the treasure trove that is the mighty 808 drum beat. Inspired by the worlds of sound, we’ll create and ‘make marks’ in whatever form we like. And we’d love you to join us!
We are Pam, Wallis and Moi. And we’re hosting this global online gathering to play and to create in our own spaces. In stillness, in movement, in silence, in sound, together.
What you hear/see/create/show is up to you.
A mark can be:
- a line on a page
- a sound
- a shout, a scream, a whisper
- a physical gesture
- a stain, a smudge, a smear
- a voice
You don’t need to be an artist, musician or dancer to join.
If you can glide a stick into sand, or dip your hand in water, or hum a sound, then great… the chances are you’ll find something around you that brings you joy or ease to make a mark with.
Cameras/sound can be on/off.
Make a mess. Big or small. Bad art = good art = bad art.
Come in your PJs or your favourite dress. With your pets or without.
We’re here to express, not impress.
The invitation is to play/create in whatever way works for you, with some space for some music and natural sounds to cheer us on.
What to bring:
- Pencil, crayon, charcoal, teabag, brush, old-eyeliner pencil, all those freebie pens (or items that are useful that you’re hoarding that you don’t use… yet ;)
- Paper, scrap packaging, sweet wrappers…
- Thread, needle, ink, rainwater, mulch, soil…
- Drums, flutes, maracas, pots/pans, synthesizers, keyboards in any usable state…
Bring any snacks you want to chew on.
Or just bring yourself and your curiosity and see what happens ✨

Why 808?
8th August is also known as 808 day, celebrating the iconic sound of The Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer. Known as “the 808”, this analogue drum machine was manufactured in the 1980s. It’s known for the deep irresistible “doof doof” beat you can feel in your chest and body. And no two sounds are ever the same.
So infectious is the 808’s sound that it thuds through the music of Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, Aphex Twin, Leftfield, Genesis, Run-D.M.C and plenty more worldwide.
In celebrating the 808’s analogue-ness, we also celebrate the soundscapes of nature at this online gathering. A perfect pairing for the 808’s association with the sounds of the earth. And as with all things analogue and natural… where might this exploration take us?

About the hosts
We are creative facilitators with track-records in finding rest and joy from art and play.
We come with an excellent taste in snacks and welcome the full spectrum of our human experience: tears and laughter, and tears of laughter; stillness in silence, and movement in stillness.
Moi Tu is an artist, facilitator and bird-lover based in London. Drawing, writing and splashing paint is her main craft. She also draws out stories for people, and runs creative workshops. Her favourite 808 song changes with her mood. Lately she's been tapping her feet to Inspection by Leftfield and watching swifts darting in the sky.

Wallis Eates (she/her) is a comics practitioner, mentor and workshop facilitator based in Devon. She is currently a PhD student at Kingston University, researching comics and trauma. Most recent go-to snack is banana and peanut butter.
