soil for seed … Community Meal and Artist Talk with Najma Hussein Abukar with Kai Khidir
Every seed needs soil. To close semente, we gather for a shared meal, an invitation to sit, eat and be nourished in one another's company. Across the diasporic social traditions of the ‘kitchen table’ this gathering of a shared meal is where knowledge moves at its most tender pace through stories exchanged, recipes carried across waters, and the ordinary generosity of feeding and being fed. A gathering where we can become soil for one another, ground rich enough for everything seeded across the weekend to settle, take root, and keep growing long after the occasion closes.
During the meal visual artist Najma Hussein Abukar joins Kai Khidir in conversation, reflecting on the prompt of the seed and the many changes and adaptations that occur throughout an artist's creative and living practice. They will speak to the shedding, dormancy and regrowth that shape a life in art.
All are welcome to stay, share food and linger. Please book in advance and note any dietary requirements when doing so.
This gathering is for Black and Brown women and gender-variant folk.
