Anakbayan UK is hosting an in-person panel discussion and gathering for the for Toboso 19 online memorial in Metroland Studios in Kilburn on the afternoon of the 19th of July. We hold this space to join the Europe wide vigil with stories and cultural performances to share, as we remember and demand justice for the 19 people including the youth, peasants, and activists massacred by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Toboso, Negros Occidental on April 19-20, 2026.
Negros is one of the most militarised areas in the Philippines. The AFP uses indiscriminate strafing that impacts poor farmers, civillians and children of Negros which constitute potential war crimes in the form of violating International Humanitarian Law. Furthermore, the majority of extrajudicial killings in the Philippines has taken place in Negros since 2022.
This pattern of violence is all the more concerning given the ongoing United States military financing and supply of military assistance to the Philippines. The US regularly conducts joint training with the AFP, including the annual Balikatan exercises.
As activists and solidarity allies, this tragedy only reaffirms our burning commitment to the struggle for genuine societal change in the Philippines, to forward the call for justice for the Toboso 19. We hope you join us at our memorial in-person or online on the 19th!
Please note all are warmly welcome to attend this gathering and we ask our white allies to please be mindful of the space and embrace the calls for meaningful solidarity. Any hate-speech or rhetoric will not be tolerated.
