Tuesday 11 & Thursday 13 August | Marla King
Marla's class will weave through sensory and image-based improvisation, as well as strength and mobilisation work, floor work and structured movement sequences. The class will focus on awakening a sense of flow and sequentiality in our movement, as well as expanding the textural qualities, sensations and possibilities that feel open to us in our dancing.
A space to play, build heat in the body, follow what lights us up, and nurture our connection with one another. Expect a sweaty, spirally, connective morning with some wholesome music!
Wednesday 12 & Friday 14 August | Manuela Hierl
In this class, we’ll explore the floor not just as a surface, but as a wall, a partner in motion. Through softness and momentum, we’ll let the floor carry us, push against it to generate dynamics, and dive into the circularity that exists within our bodies and in our relationship with gravity. We’ll investigate the mechanics of rising through multiple pathways and melting down with control, catching air in the final moment. Drawing from breakin’ technique, we’ll use unconventional support points to access both the space above and beneath us, redefining how we move through and inhabit space. Through this physical research, we will use the body as a whole to explore the tension between rational understanding and lived experience, between structure and sensation. The goal is to reach the flesh, the essence of movement, through play.

Plants are not decoration here but active protagonists, taking centre stage with their interconnected, resilient, non-hierarchical systems. Set to Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2, reimagined and interwoven with a contemporary score by Pascal Schumacher and the organic sounds of The Plant Philharmonic, the work creates a sonic landscape as layered as the ecosystems it evokes.
