Dabka workshop - StreetDabka
Street Dabka is a project that teaches Palestinian folk dabke through simple, interactive workshops inspired by the atmosphere of weddings and social gatherings. It is a flexible, accessible practice that can happen anywhere in studios, parks, streets, and public spaces inviting anyone to join, learn the rhythm, and experience the collective energy of the dance.
In this workshop, you'll learn traditional Mijwiz and wedding Dabka steps and movements danced to recorded Dabka music played on the keyboard. We'll work on choreography both in the line and across the open space, building on the foundations of traditional Dabka while exploring how it moves and transforms as a group drawing on my own experience with Street Dabka, wedding nights, and El Funoun.
Level: beginner, open to all.
