What is Queer Digital Detox?
Queer Digital Detox is a couple of hours where you get to put your phone away and just... exist.
It's for queer people who are feeling a bit overwhelmed by life online, craving genuine connection, or just fancy spending an evening with other queer people without everything revolving around alcohol, dating, networking or having to be "on" all the time.
It's a chance to slow down, meet some lovely queer people and spend a couple of hours doing something that doesn't involve staring at a screen.
This is for you if...
- Your brain feels like it's got 47 tabs open and none of them are loading properly.
- You're a bit fed up with how much of your life happens through a screen.
- You're craving queer connection that doesn't revolve around bars or dating apps.
- You'd love more queer community, but don't always have the energy for a big social event.
- You want somewhere you can relax and just be yourself.
- You miss real-life queer community... or maybe you've never really had it and want to see what it could feel like.
This month's Queer Digital Detox
We've got a new home! 🎉
Queer Digital Detox is heading to The Playhouse in Norwich, and I'm really excited about it.
We'll be there on Wednesday 2nd September, 7.30–9.30pm.
The idea is still exactly the same: a couple of hours to put your phone away, meet other queer people and spend some time together without needing to do anything in particular.
There'll be plenty of opportunity to chat, but also space to do your own thing. Bring a book, some knitting or crochet, a sketchbook, cards, colouring... whatever you'd enjoy doing offline.
Or bring absolutely nothing and just come along.
Come on your own or bring a friend. You don't need to know anyone beforehand and you don't need to be particularly "good" at socialising. You can chat, play games, sit quietly, make new friends or just enjoy being around other queer people.
What happens?
Honestly... not much.
And that's kind of the point.
There aren't any awkward icebreakers or organised networking activities. No one is going to go around the room asking you to introduce yourself and tell everyone what you do for work.
Some people chat for the whole evening. Some bring something to do. Some meet new people. Some just enjoy having somewhere to be where they don't have to perform or be "on".
It's deliberately low-key.
You can come for the whole two hours or just pop in and see how you feel.
So if you've been thinking about coming along but haven't quite made it yet, maybe this is your month.
I'd love to see you there.
