Ever wanted to try out pottery? As part of SET’s 10th anniversary celebrations, we’re opening the doors at SET Ceramics, our community pottery studio in central London, for a day of free taster workshops. These sessions are for anyone who wants to give clay a go and get a feel for ceramic-making before committing to a longer course.
Due to wheel and bench space, capacity for each slot is strictly limited. Please only book one session time so as many people as possible get a turn.
Morning Sessions: Handbuilding with Francisco Zhan
- Slot 1: 10am - 10:45am (Cap: 8)
- Slot 2: 11am - 11:45am (Cap: 8)
- Slot 3: 12pm - 12:45pm (Cap: 8)
Have a go at handbuilding with one of our course tutors, Francisco Zhan. Francisco will guide you through basic handbuilding techniques as you decorate shared clay slabs using his signature styles: slip painting, trailing, and sgraffito. Rather than taking individual pieces home, everything made across the morning will be joined together to form a collaborative sculpture for the community garden at SET’s arts and social club, SET Social, in Peckham!
Afternoon Sessions: Wheel Throwing with Lewis Hayes
- Slot 1: 3:30pm - 4:15pm (Cap: 5)
- Slot 2: 4:30pm - 5:15pm (Cap: 5)
- Slot 3: 5:30pm - 6:15pm (Cap: 5)
This is a great chance to have a go on the wheel, make a mess and see what your hand can do in a relaxed and calm environment. It doesn’t matter what you make as all clay from these taster sessions will be recycled back into the studio afterwards.
