The Art and History of Gynaecology
Join us for an afternoon exploring the art and history of gynaecology. This two-hour workshop will provide an overview of the historical (mis)treatment of common but under-researched gynaecological-related health conditions like endometriosis and fibroids; the tactics communities have used to protest neglect and misunderstanding; and how people experiencing health conditions might use this knowledge to self-advocate today. The event will be led by Dr Emma Day, an historian of gender and medicine, and Naz Toorabally, an artist who leads health education programmes focusing on menstrual health and reproductive justice. Emma Day will open the event with a short lecture on the history of gynaecology. Naz Toorabally will then lead the interactive zine-making workshop. The event is aimed at people experiencing gynaecological health condition(s) who would like to learn more about the history of medical practice, share their experiences, and build community.
