LEATHER: A QUEER HISTORY
Leather, sex, rebellion and chosen family. From the back rooms of post-war gay bars and motorcycle clubs to leather cruising bars, fetish clubs and queer nightlife, leather has been stitched into LGBTQ+ history for decades.
This event gets under the skin of leather culture, exploring the people, places and communities that shaped it — from London leather bars and cruising clubs, including legendary venues such as The Backstreet, to motorcycle clubs, fetish scenes and underground spaces where leather became a language of desire, identity and belonging.
We’ll explore BLUF — Bikers, Leather, Uniform, Fetish — and the many styles and codes that developed around queer leather culture: bikers, cowboys, uniforms, military gear, denim, boots and more. We’ll look at how clothing became a way of signalling identity, desire, status and belonging, and how something as simple as a pair of highly polished boots could become part of the ritual and fetish. These were ways of playing with masculinity and desire — sometimes deliberately exaggerated, sometimes borrowed from working-class and military worlds, and often transformed into something distinctly queer.
Leather was never just about what you wore. It could be sex, fashion, performance, protest, rebellion, service and community — a way of creating connection in a world that often pushed queer lives underground.
Expect archive images, stories, subculture, sex, cinema, politics, fashion, cruising, boots, styles and of course LEATHER!

Astrid Johnson is the co-founder of the London Leatherdykes, a leathercare and leatherworking professional working under the moniker of Bvtch Boots, and is currently serving as Bootblack Europe 2026 and International Ms Bootblack 2026. You’ll also find her delivering workshops on leather history, cruising fundamentals, and more, as well as judging Leather contests and broadly representing Bootblacks and Leatherdykes on the international stage.
Stephane ..You may have encountered KAISER, also known as Stephane to some, during his infamous talks at events such as Hunter or London Fetish Week with Recon, or maybe LAM (London Alternative Market), or Love Tank! If not, you might have met him as the Host of the London Leather Social! Maybe, or met him as the representative of London Leathermen as Mr Leather London 2024! Regardless of where you meet him in the future, be assured that Stephane would welcome you with open arms and kindness!
Tidus is originally from HongKong, and he is a man of many talents. You might know him as a leather fetish model for well known events! You might know him as a dedicated and talented Chinese lute player- also known as Pipa. Tidus has made it his mission to become the bridge that links his Chinese heritage and the London fetish community and beyond by hosting the renowned Dim Sum Social.
