Let’s gather for a DIY Pride Picnic on Saturday 05 September 2026 from noon at the Abbey Sculpture (what 3 words: fixed.stand.narrow). We will have picnic blankets ready to go and some snacks to share (including some vegan and gluten-free) but please bring your own.
🌈 How is this different from other Pride events in Reading? Following on from initiatives such as Writing for your Rights Reading, Reading Queer Social, and DIY Pride Reading, DIY Pride Picnic is an event for trans-inclusive, intersectional, anti-racist, anti-capitalist folks who want to build a community with other LGBTQIA+ folks interested in collective action and mutual aid.
🥒 Why a DIY Pride Picnic? What could be less corporate than a collectively-organised picnic with no sponsors and no corporate agendas? With so many in Reading’s LGBTQIA+ at capacity, a DIY Pride Picnic feels manageable for everyone involved.
📍How accessible is the location? The location has step-free access (see map below, with step-free routes highlighted in yellow, and a circled ‘X’ marks the spot).
🎟️ Do I have to book tickets? Book your tickets in advance to let us know you are coming. If you have specific access needs or questions about the event, you can email us (diypriderdg (at) proton (dot) me).
👋 What else should I know? We are committed to creating a collaborative, collective, and community-oriented event where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We will not tolerate any forms of bullying or harassment at this event.
