We took a wee break because as all Edinburgh residents know, August is a busy month… BUT festival season brought us book club inspiration in the form of a Book Festival panel looking back on ten years since the publication of Nikesh Shukla’s anthology The Good Immigrant.
What has changed (or not) since 2016? Join us in discussing and making zines based on the themes of The Good Immigrant.
Whether you attended the panel, have read one or two or the essays, or haven’t read any of the book at all; come along and let’s chat and craft!

As always, we are opening up the discussion to books and beyond. Bring films, articles, or poems that resonate with the theme; don't be afraid to get creative!
Speaking of getting creative, we'll be making zines inspired by the book, the discussions we have, and the experience of being a POC/immigrant in the UK today. We'll be providing materials, but feel free to bring along anything you might like to use or share!
This space is specifically for POC readers. Allies can support us by attending our cabarets or donating directly to Saffron Cherry.

📌 Venue Accessibility:
Roots is accessible through a small ramp at the entrance. The event will take place in the front room, which is accessible via wheelchair. If you have any additional access requirements, we are always happy to accommodate, so let us know!
There will be hot drinks and snacks at this event, so please let us know if you have allergies or dietary requirements.
Face masks are encouraged, but we'll have spares on hand if you forget. Please reconsider attending this event if you feel that you may have been in contact with coronavirus recently - you can always tune in next month!
