MSJI Film Club by Muslim Social Justice Initiative 📽️ - a social cinema club screening beautiful films from across the Muslim world 🎞️🍿
We’re so excited to be continuing our film club with a screening of Kamal Aljafari’s With Hasan in Gaza (مع حسن في غزة), a moving cinematic journey through everyday life in Gaza.
Filmed in 2001 and rediscovered more than two decades later, With Hasan in Gaza sees Aljafari embark upon an unexpected road trip from the north to the south of Gaza, capturing streets, markets, and coastlines along the way.
Doors open at 18:30 for a 19:00 screening, with time to sit together and discuss the film in community afterwards. 🍿
“Three MiniDV tapes of life in Gaza from 2001 were recently rediscovered. What started as a search for a former prison mate from 1989 led to an unexpected road trip from the north to the south of Gaza with Hasan, a local guide whose fate remains unknown. A cinematic reflection on memory, loss and the passage of time, capturing a Gaza of the past and lives that may never be found again.”
This screening is donation-based. Choose the ticket level that works for you, with all proceeds going to Bridge of Solidarity, a mutual aid organisation based in Gaza.
