Join Bogdana Ababii and Kai Edwards for an autumn walk through the woods and an opportunity to slow down, look closely and get to know the fungi growing around us. ššæ
Led by two foragers, this will be a relaxed, beginner-friendly walk with plenty of time to explore, ask questions and share knowledge along the way. Weāll be learning to recognise some of the fungi we encounter, while paying attention to the trees, habitats and wider woodland communities they are part of.
Along the way, weāll touch on edible and poisonous species, medicinal fungi, traditional uses, and the ethics and etiquette of foraging in the UK. Weāll also make space for some of the stories and cultural histories surrounding fungi and foraging, and think together about our relationships with the more-than-human world.
The fungi walk is open to anyone curious about fungi, whether youāre completely new to them or already have some experience.
Come prepared for autumn weather, woodland paths and potentially a little mud! š
Logistics/ Locationš
The walk will take place in woods around North/East London. The exact location will be confirmed one week before the walk and will be accessible by London public transport (bus, tube or Overground).
The average walk might be around 2-3km, with a lunch/ snack/ rest break in the middle, and will take you through different habitats on uneven terrain. The route and pace on the day, however, will be dictated by the needs of the group. Walks will go ahead on rainy days (provided the weather conditions donāt worsen or prove unsafe).
Please contact us (email: bogdanaababii@gmail.com or Instagram DM: @fungal.kin_) if any of the above acts as a barrier to your participation or if you have any other access needs/ concerns. We might also so be able to provide any missing equipment/ gear. Our aim is to create a safe, inclusive and accessible space for anyone who is keen on entangling with fungi and learning more :) Queer, anti-racist and decolonial social justice are deeply embedded within our ethics; any oppressive behaviours, sexism, homophobia, racism, transphobia or ablism will not be tolerated on these walks.
