Join mycologist and queer ecologist Izzy Mcleod on a fungi walk through the cemetery exloring different aspects of the fungal world. It's open and friendly to beginners, with plenty of space to ask questions, as well as slow down and enjoy being outside. Exactly what we talk about will depend on the fungi we encounter (no two walks can ever be the same) but will include some of the following:
- How to start identifying unknown fungi
- What are fungi and what role to they play in ecosystems
- Basic foraging tips
- Welsh and other folklore linked to fungi
- Welsh names for fungi and trees
- Queer ecology and the ways in which fungi break binaries and question hierarchies
Please note this walk is not focused on food/foraging and is instead a broader look at the fungal kingdom. We may find and talk about edible/useful/poisonous species but that is not guaranteed.
Location:
We'll be exploring Cathays Cemetery in Cardiff on this walk
Exact meeting point will be confirmed via email a week before the walk.
Tickets will be checked on arrival.
Access:
The walk will be a slow meander on paved paths through the cemetery lasting approximately two hours. We will have regular stops and you're welcome to bring a stool/camping chair/ coat to sit on when we stop.
