THE WORD MADE FLESH - Memorise your poem in an evening.
In the beginning was the word, and then somebody had to learn it by heart.
You've seen the poet who puts the page down and just speaks. The room goes still, because they're talking to you instead of reading at you. The poem stops being something on paper and becomes something in them.
That's what this evening is for. Bring one poem of your own, and in two and a half hours we'll get the first half of it off by heart, using six techniques that actors, preachers and storytellers have used for centuries. You'll chunk it, walk it round your house, give it to your hands and feet, and learn what to do when you go blank, which everyone does. By the end you'll stand up and say it without the page, and you'll leave with a seven-day plan to learn the rest.
This is for you if
What to bringOne poem of your own, 14 to 30 lines, printed out. A pen. Enough room to stand up and move about a bit.
Facilitated by host of make poetry weird again and phantom of the open mic Nols Nathankski who has performed over 100 times in the last 12 months.
