Join Sappho the Sproodle and Inigo the young man* on a delightful wander on this guided walk along the Regent’s Canal. We’ll follow the towpath as it meanders from Angel, Islington through Hoxton and Haggerston to the great green expanse of Vicky Park, passing narrowboats, old warehouses and pretty locks.
We’ll discuss the canal’s history, from John Nash’s grand plan to today’s floating bookshops and coffee boats. Inigo will tell you all about a range of animal based stories from the Dogs of ancient Athenian statesman Alcibiades, to the horse-drawn coal barges, to the five lifesize semi-illegal (allegedly) sharks.
There are plenty of pauses for sniffing, coffee sipping and you’ll meet fellow dog lovers as you go. The walk ends in Victoria Park, where there’s space to stretch your legs and room for the dogs to run around.
Bring a dog, a friend’s dog, a friend or just yourself (dog not required) for a pleasant morning stroll.
This walk is designed as a comfortable amble along the river. The terrain is predominantly flat. However there can be other path users in the form of runners, cyclists and couples walking hand in hand. Suitable for dogs of all shapes and sizes. For the best experience of all, dogs and humans should be happy to get along with people, other dogs and waterbirds.
