For all abilities and levels! Including complete beginners.
Can you sew a button on? How about thread a sewing machine? How about adapt a pattern or even make your own clubbing fit from scratch?! Now you can!! Learn how to sew sustainably using 2nd hand materials with Sxc Scraps at the QueerSwap studio.
Structure of the course:
4x weekly sessions on Tuesday evenings (7-9pm) during the month of November. (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th).
If unable to join every week, you can receive credit for later classes or standalone workshops.
Beginners: will learn all the basics of using a sewing machine, cutting out patterns, and making their first project, from a suggested selection. Students then have the opportunity to further their skills with a clothesmaking or more challenging project - such as a patchwork/layered skirt, cxnty clubbing outfit, or more!
Intermediate - Advanced: If you already know how to sew, or use patterns - these sessions provide you an opportunity to push your skills with more challenging projects. Want to add bias binding the couture way? How about altering and adapting patterns to fit you and your style (or even using these as a base to make your own patterns!)? These are all things you can learn in these November sewing sessions. (The goal is challenge for all, so if you’re worried you might be a bit more advanced, just trust me, I can encourage and challenge you!!)
About your host: Sxc Scraps is run by a sewist of over 17 years, and has been a full-time sewing + sustainability teacher for the past 3 years, running classes & workshops for all ages and skill levels. Learn all the secret crafty tips and tricks she’s learned from fashion week, to making historically accurate Victorian corsetry, and now running an upcycling business! Her mission: teaching people to extend the lifecycle of clothing and save as much textile waste from going to landfill - with style, slogans, and a bit of spice!
