New Adventures - William Kherbek in conversation with Carle Gent
This event brings together William Kherbek and Carle Gent on the occasion of a new edition of Kherbek's novel New Adventures by Flat i publishing (Amsterdam). The novel is a retelling of the story of Don Quixote through the lens of lifestyle vlogging and streaming. The main character's misadventures shadow Quixote's errancy as she builds a globe conquering personal brand.
Kherbek's novel focusses on the ways in which the personality and the self are commodified, performed, and distributed in digital culture. Digital subjectivity becomes a complex process that is always subject to policing by audiences and markets. Carle Gent's work tries to embrace semi-communicable forms of subjectivity and awareness, perspectives that are no less extended but occasionally feature a spot of fecundity.
Over the course of Floreat Ego the two will mix readings and conversation related to questions of identity, being, and agency and Kherbek's book will be available for the first time in Glasgow.
